Koh Chang protests?

This item in today’s Bangkok Post caught my eye:

Koh Chang protest hots up

TRAT : Leaders on Koh Chang will decide today whether to close the tourist island to visitors to pressure the government to solve residents’ long-running land disputes with the navy.

Island residents, led by local leaders and politicians, are threatening to close the island to visitors on Friday unless their demands are met.

The group is calling for the revocation of the navy’s ownership documents for land on the island and the cancellation of Koh Chang’s listing as a national park.

Ko Chang and Ko Kood: My New T+L Southeast Asia Story

I have a story in the July issue of Travel + Leisure Southeast Asia about luxury developments on Thailand’s Ko Chang and Ko Kood. The article isn’t online, but it’s called “Sea Change,” and it starts on page 79. Cedric Arnold did a great job with the photography.

If you’re here in Bangkok, you can pick up T+L Southeast Asia at BTS stations and in bookstores. Here’s more info on the magazine.

(Incidentally, I was happy to see that the Letter of the Month was submitted by a reader in The Philippines who enjoyed my story about motorbiking in the north of Vietnam, which appeared in the April issue.)

Photos from Koh Chang, Chanthaburi, and Around Bangkok

Yours Truly

I recently purchased the excellent Nikon D40 camera. And a trip down to Koh Chang and Chanthaburi last week afforded me the perfect opportunity to put my new toy photojournalism tool through its paces.

You can see all 40 images in the set here.

Following are some of my favorite pics:
