Fire Howard Dean

What, exactly, does Howard Dean need to say to get canned? Would somebody please shut this jackass up? I mean, seriously, the guy is a fool.

I’m sure he’s not the only one who thinks the war in Iraq can’t be “won” (if “winning” means a complete end to violence in Iraq in the short term and the entire dismantling of the insurgency — insurgent movements, by their very nature, don’t ever go away completely). We need to re-define what “winning” looks like, formulate a plan for a successful withdrawl from the country in the next year or two, and devote our resources to protecting our own country from domestic terrorist attacks.

But Howard Dean can’t be bothered to craft the DNC’s message in any coherent way. He is a bombastic, grandstanding whiner; this is actualy about what I expect from him, sadly.

AP:

WASHINGTON — Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, likened the war in Iraq to Vietnam yesterday and said, ”The idea that the United States is going to win the war in Iraq is just plain wrong,” comments that drew immediate fire from Republicans.

VoRtoN: thanks for writing. I say that we should “re-definte what winning looks like” in Iraq because the realities of the war have changed since it was begun. I never supported a US attack on Iraq, by the way. But now that we’re there it’s in our best interest to make the sure country’s stable before leaving. In all likelihood Iraq woud collapse into civil war if we withdraw our troops now. Would that be good for the US or Iraq? Of course not.

The problem is that the Bush adminstration wasn’t honest with the American people. The unstated goal was never to find WMDs or remove Hussein; the idea was to foster change in the middle east. The war is all about 9-11 and the neocons’ desire to transform a troublesome part of the world.

So now that we’re there, “winning” isn’t about WMD or capturing Hussein — it HAS to be about stabilizing the country and creating an environment in which its goverment can function effectively. Doing so — winning, if you want to call it that — is simply the best way to end a war that should never have been waged.

Hey dude, what’s your problem? A big league politician like Dean speaking the truth about Iraq is a blast of fresh air and we should be grateful. Looks to me like you’re the fool for joining the lynch mob trying to shut him up. And it’s your idea about Iraq that’s ridiculous, not Dean’s. We’re not going to win the war. “Re-define what winning looks like?” Yeah, maybe we should re-define winning as “losing.” That would make us the big winners! But not for “a year or two.” Are you really that dumb?
